I have an idea....

Okay, so I have been wracking my brain trying to come up with a way to use a blog right now in my class and see how it works.  In my Recent History Class I have assigned a last project that can be about ANYTHING between the years 1946-2006.  The students will start presenting these to the class on Tuesday next week.  There really won't be a test over all the kids research projects, but I would like them to interact with the material in some way.  I will post a discussion question about each project the night of the day it is presented.  I will give it as an assignment to post their thoughts about each persons presentation from that day.  Hope this works, keep your fingers crossed........

  1. Sounds like fun! What are the requirements? Is this a multi-media project? Just curious? We do semester tests and I feel like as a teacher I spend way more time developing the test and the review than the kids spending studying for the test (which is worth 10% of their grade). I have thought instead of a paper test-having my students do a presentation over what they learned during the semester.

  2. Great idea! A suggestion...have the students who are presenting develop the discussion question based on the information from their project. They can also read over the responses and add comments.

  3. I think that is a great idea!!! I too was trying to figure out how I can put this in right now! I just assigned a project in place of a test, so I think I will steal your idea and do the same! Only with biodiversity in science!

  4. My account wasn't letting me log-in to post comments, but it is working now. Please disregard the above test post.

I like where you are headed on this idea. It is very similar to something that I have used in the past for my classes. I bet the kids really appreciate the latitude to be able to focus on any area of time that they want. We are currently doing a World War 2 research project in which they get to choose their topic. I've found that about 75% of the kids are excited to do their own, but then some of the others tend to get bogged down by having too much freedom. I usually have a list of 25 suggestions that they can select from that point.

  5. What a great way to keep everyone involved with the presentations. I think the students will enjoy it. Wonderful idea! :)

  6. I think this sounds like a good idea. This will encourage the kids to focus on others presentations besides their own.
